The weather in Texas can be unpredictable but with a few safety measures before, during, and after a storm you can take take measures to stay safe and minimize damage. 

Severe storm is in the forecast

• Check local weather reports and broadcasts for hourly updates
• Check for and clear blockages in your drainage pipes to prevent a house or property flood
• Remove or secure any exposed wiring or electrical cords and hazards that could cause a slip and fall
• Consider keeping and emergency preparedness kit on hand     

During the storm

• Don't use candles for lighting, as this causes a fire risk     
• Stay away from windows and doors or go to a secure shelter  
• Stay tuned to emergency weather updates

The storm is over     

• Check floors and surfaces for water damage 
• If you find evidence of water damage, mop and blot any standing water       
• In the warmer months, turn the AC on to help with drying    
• Remove any loose item to dry ground and wipe down
