Storm Readiness - Make an Emergency Kit!

This hurricane season has been a doozy. There are currently six tropical storms swirling around in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
Within the last month, Hurricane Dorian nearly obliterated the Bahamas, and Tropical Storm Imelda wreaked havoc on both Texas and Louisiana.
There is nothing we can do to prevent storms from happening. However, we can take precautions and do what we can in order to be prepared in the event a storm or disaster strikes our area.
In the "Build a Kit" section of their website, ready.gov offers a list of suggestions of items to have prepared in case of a general disaster.
Sealing all the items you assemble in airtight plastic bags keeps them safe from water, and having a way to easily carry around your supplies is helpful in the event that you need to move from your location.
Some suggested items to include in your emergency kit are: water, non-perishable food, batteries, a map of your local area, a NOAA weather radio, a first aid kit, and a flashlight. There are additional items that you can consider, and some that will depend specifically on the needs of your family (Do you have pets? Do any of your relatives require medication? Are there babies who require formula? etc).
